The basics of getting started on the right footing

Internet Business Ideas is a three-part report that I've assembled for my readers. So keep this in mind as you start to read.

Part 1-

When I finally decided that the internet was my best opportunity to create a stable source of income for my family I was immediately overwhelmed with all the possible resources to use. Fortunately for me I came across someone at work who had already taken the plunge into internet marketing by creating a website for their fiance and was in the process of maximizing their SEO efforts.

By listening to them and gleaning valuable information from their journey I finally worked up enough nerve to go through the sites I had bookmarked as possible resources. My personal search for my internet business ideas began by studying everything I could get my hands on regarding "affiliate marketing". Unlike my co-worker I did not have a web site with a product of my own to promote and this seemed like the perfect fit. Here is the summary of my personal journey. I believe it will serve as a great map for others who want to find their own "pot of gold" on the internet business ideas landscape.

decide how much you can afford to spend on your internet business ideas education over the first 12 months decide which internet business ideas model will work best for you; website, blog, affiliate marketing, or online auctions, understand the pro's and cons of each one after you have selected your internet business ideas model begin to educate yourself on the most effective methods to develop and promote your business; this is where you begin to invest in yourself, which course work, ebook or software will you need to purchase at this time? whatever you decide take it seriously - if you treat it like a business then it will respond like a business once you feel you have a pretty good grasp of this material then look forward and see where you lack confidence or knowledge to take your business to the next level, i.e, creating banners, email autoresponders, writing content, online promotion, etc. Then plan on making your next investment in your continuing education in the internet business ideas field. this education process is ongoing, each time you learn something new immediately put it the test, this is the only way you'll know if you truly have what it takes. join as many forums as possible that are specific to your internet business ideas and develop good relationships with members that you feel truly know what their talking about rinse and repeat Even if you decide to go with a pre-established internet business idea like that of an MLM business you will need to invest in your education in order to really succeed with your internet business idea. I have my own personal internet marketing "coaches" that I refer to regularly. I even buy their products as I continue to this day to educate myself. This is the best advice I can give anyone who is considering any internet business ideas ...it has served me well.

Part 2-

In Part One I covered the basics of getting started with Internet Business Ideas . From this point forward I want to take a closer look at what to expect depending on which option you've chosen and making the right decision with that option in mind.

Let's start with what your motivation is for considering any internet business ideas . According to a recent Harris poll, 72% of American households are thinking about starting a home-based business. You are not alone. Each one of these households holds a unique reason for giving this option serious consideration.

Why is this such a phenomenon? Let's consider the following facts and see which one applies to you:

Our rapidly changing economy is making it a very expensive venture to live the american dream. When you consider how many of us are trying to purchase and maintain 2 cars. buy a home, medical expenses for those of us who are uninsured, sending kids to college, and finally preparing ourselves for the golden years, it is a daunting task.

Because we have such a "service-oriented" economy more and more people are dropping out of the rat race to provide services and/or goods from home. They start part-time and build until they can drop the "day job." The sense of independence that is acquired is an extremely strong motivation for these people.

For many, working from home is the best choice (ex., the stay-at-home spouse, or those who are retired). Perhaps you're skills are not as "in-demand" in your geographic market as they once were. However, in other parts of the country there is a vast pool of customers who are looking for someone just like you. Unfortunately, you just can't uproot your family at this time because of commitments you've already made: church, school for the kids, etc.

For others, working from home may be the only option (ex., house-bound due to health or to care for elderly parents). You might be a very talented mechanic or nurse but you are just not able to physically meet the demands of the job you are trained to perform.

Finally, internet business ideas have even proven to be an excellent (if unexpected) opportunity for hundreds of thousands (ex., the "downsized"). However, for many of these candidates there is one hurdle they are are not prepared for. This area is fraught with "get rich quick" schemes. So it is important to evaluate the opportunities carefully. Anything that offers great rewards for no-or-low work is a fraud. Think about it -- why would they need you? When you consider this aspect of getting started it can sometimes take the wind out of your sails.

Guess what...I've got Bad News and I've got Good News. Building an internet home business (a real business), no matter what kind of business, requires work. "That's the bad news."

The good news is that there has never been a better time to start a business from home. The Internet makes it a low-cost (i.e., low-risk), high-potential route. You have to look beyond the blinders you may be walking around with and see the real potential that awaits you. Remember, "nothing ventured, nothing gained".

Forget the long string of "classic work-at-home" dead-end jobs (ex., envelope-stuffing and telemarketing). I would never recommend those. You need to seriosuly consider how to Use the Web to build something terrific that excites you, a business to be proud of, that you own, and that earns you substantial income.

As you try to focus on the path that's right for I want you (and possible your spouse, if you're married) to consider what knowledge it is you have that really excites you and are comfortable sharing with others. Conduct a brainstorming session to cover all the possibilities. You may not realize how valuable that knowledge is. There just might be a niche market out there that is waiting for you to show up on the scene and gobble up what you have to offer.

Part 3-

In Part 2 of this series I touched on the subject of brainstorming to gather some internet business ideas on what you are knowledgeable about. Our purpose for doing this was to determine what untapped information you could market online. After all, there are millions of searches done online everyday for information. Our next step is too review the process of finding a niche market that is a great fit for your area of knowledge (expertise).

The best way to find out what niches are possibly being neglected that you could market to will require the use of a Keyword Search Tool. There are 2 reasons why this is a critical step:

No matter how knowledgeable you are on the subject you've chosen, you must first determine if there is actually a market out there. I would recommend that you consider only those keywords or phrases that are searched for a minimum of 30,000 times a month.

You next want to build a massive list of keywords and phrases that are relevant to your prospective subject (site). The more keywords you can find the more traffic you'll attract to your site. You want words with high demand and low competition.

Once you've built your keyword list you want to spend some time organizing your keywords into related groups. There are 3 reasons for this:

The Main keyword of each group that you just formed will serve as the title of your very targeted web pages.

Each group of keywords will serve as a guide to help you develop extremely relevant content for the web pages of your internet business ideas. This will help you win points with the search engines.

When you're ready to create your ad campaigns for paid placements with Google, Yahoo, and MSN, you'll be better situated to create ads that will have a greater chance of garnering high click-through-rates which should then translate into higher conversions (sales)

For example, I once created an affiliate ad campaign for a relatively new website (that is no longer in business due to some bad online business practices). It was generating a click through rate of 14%. I was paying $.05/click for the keyword "friends" and it had a conversion of 22%. The payout for each referral was $1.75. So, for every 100 clicks I was paying $5.00 to advertise and I was earning $38.50. This netted me a profit of $33.50. At that time I was generating 250-275 referrals per day for this "niche" site. My typical payday was a minimum of $400.

What investment do you know of that requires only $5 and returns to you $38.50? Certainly nothing at your bank, that's for sure.

Now, I'm not implying that when you use a Keyword Search Tool that you you'll be able to do the same thing, but I'm fairly certain without it you probably won't. Using the right Keyword Search Tool is a must if you want to do an effective job of researching the internet for your niche market and if you're determined to succeed at generating traffic for your niche. Think of it like using a real estate agent to find that perfect 4 bedroom ranch on the 2 acre lot in a neighborhood that is still somewhat undeveloped and has lots of trees. You could do the search yourself, or you can use the knowledge and expertise of this agent to make your search a bit more successful and a bit faster.

I will tell you this - I was absolutely amazed when I used a Keyword Search Tool to help develop one of my websites. Within 3 months I received a page rank of 2 with Google and was listed with all the major search engines. All this without any paid placement advertisements. As I regularly checked my site stats with "Google's Analytics" I learned that my visitors were actually finding my site with the keywords that I had developed with the search tool and they were browsing my site for a good long time. Not only that, but they were bookmarking my site (usually 10%) and returning quite often.
