These Super Affiliates Are Sharing their Business Roadmap

For an online entrepreneur, getting affiliate marketing tips from a super affiliate is kind of like a recreational ball player getting pointers from Kobe Bryant. If the opportunity ever presents itself, you stand still, and you listen.

Meet Melford and Concetta Bibens of Sarasota, Florida, whose online business as a vendor and super affiliate has netted them millions of dollars in just three years.

“You have to treat [your website] like a business,” Melford Bibens begins. The alternative, he adds, is to “treat it like a hobby and make hobby money.”

Former owners of a retail gym and day spa business, Melford and Concetta saw the writing on the wall at the start of the economic downturn. “We had a real hard time keeping a 10,000 square foot building open and functioning where everyone else in the industry was starting to drop their prices to 20 bucks a month, 10 bucks a month,” Melford admits.

The Bibens wasted no time. While struggling to keep their gym afloat, they began creating content to sell online—mostly ebooks at the beginning, and other products related to business opportunity, real estate, health supplements and more.

“We’re able to use the Internet to make so much more money than we ever have before with our previous businesses,” Melford says. “If you can have successful high-converting products and a killer list that you can promote all the right stuff to… that’s where the synergy is… and it just grows… The money that can be made once you get to the super affiliate strata, as well as from product production, it’s nuts, it’s crazy,” he adds.

That’s not to suggest their affiliate marketing success hasn’t been earned. “If something looks easy, you’re not going to make money doing it,” Melford says, adding, “granted, this is a lot easier than working 80 hours a week trying to keep our gym doors open.”

From the start the Bibens zeroed in on one crucial component of effective marketing—building their brand. “Our brand got popular because we are who we are. We are just normal folks who, you know, figured out the right things to do and figured out how to teach other normal folks how to do it,” Melford adds.

Their online success wasn’t immediate, however. “At the start,” he adds, “we were scratching by and making pennies, but as the product sold better and people realized that… it was a product that they can make money with, they started searching it out.” Instead of pay-per-click, Melford says, “we just depended on organic search and… doing emails to our friends through our joint venture partners… We went from a 4,000 person list to a 75,000 person list in a year, which, when we did it… that was just impossible.”

Although the Bibens’ flagship site is cashmakingpowersites.com, a product for creating effective web sites, their success was not born of technical prowess. “Even today, we’re not the most technically adept people out there… Our forte is knowing how to communicate with folks, how to really convey our ideas to people, in very simple plain English,” Melford explains.

That ability to connect with their audience is especially powerful in today’s affiliate marketing environment. “The faceless Internet has gone by, the days of sending out an email with a name on it, and hoping it’s going to sell are gone,” Melford asserts. “If you can’t put personality behind your product, a saleable personality… don’t get into the game… Right now if you’re not doing video, you’re not going to be a top seller on ClickBank or any other merchant account or product base.”

With their gym now closed, the Bibens are keeping things simple—and highly profitable. With just a few employees running their multi-million dollar business, their life has changed dramatically. It’s been a “paradigm leap from working 80 hours a week in a store front that was costing us 20 grand a month to… now spending very little monthly but making a lot more income,” Melford says.

It’s an experience the Bibens have enjoyed in all regards. “I love what I do right now, I love the lifestyle that it gives us, I love the production of the new products, the business foundations, the planning, the operations,” Concetta says. “You’ll see what can happen if you get all these pieces right on Tuesday January 25th,” Melford adds. The Bibens’ online success has also improved their family life. “We have utter and total freedom during the summer for [our kids], and after school we can go and kick the football around and do whatever we want,” Melford adds.

While their success is both undeniable and awe-inspiring, the Bibens do have some regrets. When they first started, Melford concedes, “we sort of skipped over a bunch of steps … we didn’t have our support systems in place properly,” he admits. “There are a lot of different ways to monetize your sites… which probably would have made us, twice, 3x, even 4x as much money that first year.” All in all, Melford adds, “a little bit of education upfront would have helped a lot.”

Simple advice, but coming from a super affiliate, this may indeed be a multi-million dollar tip.
